Padworth Preparation Progamme

Our Padworth Preparation Programme prepares students for greater success in their further studies. The Programme consists of intensive English language tuition and study skills support for international students who need to improve their English before enrolling on our GCSE, A Level and NCUK International Foundation Year courses.

Developed in conjunction with Bishopstrow College, this programme will prepare students to deal with the cognitive and linguistic demands of further study. The programme provides a bespoke approach to the integration of subject syllabus and language, including individual learning plans for each student.

Dependent on their level of English language and academic ability, the Padworth Preparation Programme can be taught for one, two or three terms, before moving onto their further studies.

The Padworth Preparation Programme will be assessed through regular internal assessments and tracking, resulting in a certificate of completion.

The Padworth Preparation Programme consists of two levels to cater for lower and higher levels of language ability. Across both levels, all subjects are taught using the Cambridge Assessment International Education IGCSE syllabuses. English language support is scaffolded into the syllabus of each subject as well as being taught in separate groups, with the lower level group receiving higher levels of English language support and lower levels of syllabus content.  In the higher level group, English language support scaffolding is reduced and syllabus content is increased.

Alongside their English language classes, students will attend Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) classes for their traditional academic subjects, like geography, maths, science, business and history. The intention of these classes is to provide additional language support within subjects that require more challenging forms of language use.
